County Cup – Round 2 Beeston Biz Vs Wollaton Pirates 26th October 2008 – Beeston Fields Recreation Ground The Pirates went into this game full of confidence as last weeks performance had been put to one side but the reality that we had given our closest league rivals a massive kick in the teeth by taking 3 points of them left a great big smile on all the players faces. The season was hotting up early, with cup victories against Arnold and Nottingham law school from higher divisions as well the upcoming cup fixtures against EMPAL golden boys Fanzines FC and today’s opponents Beeston Biz. A good performance today from the Pirates would mean that the foundations would be in place to kick on for silverware again this season. |

EMPAL – Division 3 Punjab Colts Vs Wollaton Pirates 19th October 2008 – Colwick Racecourse After last week’s monumental performance in the first round of the EMPAL Cup against Arnold Cross Keys, the Pirates faced another tricky tie in only their second league game of the season against highflying Punjab Colts. Punjab had picked up 4 wins and 1 draw in their opening 5 league games, which left them sitting pretty at the top of Division 4. The Pirates had only played 1 league game due to postponements and the unlucky misfortune of not receiving a bye in the first round of the Empal cup! Although the fixture was to be played so early in the season everybody within both clubs knew that this result would have a big effect on the outcome of our league positions come May next year. |

In only our second league game of the season we knew that any points dropped could be costly come the end of the season. Not a vintage Pirates performance by any means but a lot of grit and determination was displayed in the second half which limited Punjab to speculative long ball tactics with 10 men behind the ball trying to defend for a point. Sam Williams popped up with a screamer with only 7 minutes to play to grab all 3 points and earn the Pirates a 1-0 victory. A full match report will follow. |

Empal Cup – Round 1 Wollaton Pirates Vs Arnold Cross Keys 12th October 2008 – Birchover Sports Ground The Wollaton Pirates first outing of the season in the Empal cup had an epic written all over it when the draw was made in the summer. Our opponents on Sunday were Arnold Cross Keys who for those that remember were previously called Arnold ex Service. Arnold have won back to back leagues and now find themselves sitting at the top of the tree in Division 2, having won 11-1 the previous Sunday. |

The Pirates faced a huge challenge today against a very well organised and committed Arnold Cross Keys side at Birchover park in the 1st round of the EMPAL cup. Arnold have won back to back league titles and are arguably the best team we have faced in our short history. A fantastic spectacle of proper football ended in a 2-2 draw with the Pirates winning 5-3 on penalties. A full match report will soon be available but i just wanted to say well done to the lads as they played out of their skins today and thoroughly deserved to win the match after hitting the woodwork 3 times and having 2 goals ruled out. We now face another massive challenge against high flying fanzines in the next round who took our reserves to town with a 10-2 victory. |

Nottinghamshire County Cup Junior Section - Round 1 Nottingham Law School Vs Wollaton Pirates 28th September 2008 – Grove Farm Wollaton Pirates 1st team kicked off their County Cup Campaign against last seasons EMPAL Cup winners Nottingham Law School away at Grove Farm. Nottingham Law School currently play their trade in the EMPAL’s top league so on paper looked like they may give the Pirates a stern test. |

Empal Division 3 Wollaton Pirates Vs Brooks Villa 14th September 2008 – Birchover Sports Ground After an enjoyable summer break the Empal 4th Division champions commenced their long awaited return to competitive action at home to Brooks Villa. Pre season had been a reasonable success for the Pirates 1st team winning all three ‘friendlies’, two of which were against division 1 opposition, most notably a 2-0 thrashing of last seasons runners up Fanzines FC.
