The second round of the Empal cup produced a thrilling tie as Wollaton Pirates Res edged past Elwes Arms. The game started very well for Elwes Arms as they raced in a 3 goal lead within 15 minutes of the tie. The first goal came from a weak attempt at goal which went through Pirates Keeper Matt Hoylands legs leading his fellow team mates to think he was still drunk from the night before. It was not long before Elwes got a second with a ball put between the Piratres centre halfs and the pace of the Elwes Arms striker allowed him to get past them and slot the ball nicely home. Elwes continued to pile on the pressure and were awarded with a third goal which came from a corner which was only half cleared landing to a man on the edge of the box who rifled the ball home from 20 yards.

It was the first round of the EMPAL cup and Wollaton Pirates Res were eager to get their first win of the season under their belts and progress into the next round of the cup. For the third week running a number of players were missing due to other commitments but a strong Pirates 11 turned up for the game with Rempston from Division 4.

The game started well for Wollaton playing some good football and knocking the ball around, the Pirates kept possesion of the ball for the majority of the half which turned into a dominating first half performance that would left Rempston 6-0 down at the break.

The game started fairly even with both sides having a fair amount of possesion but chances produced were few and far between. With some good work from the Pirates back four Freebets4all failed to create many clear cut chances. The Pirates began to take control of the game with some one and two touch passing and thought they had taken the lead through Mark Jordon only for it to be ruled offside when it clearly looked that he was onside when the shot was taken.
